Rocket City Marathon Registration-Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the day registration opens!!! I am Giddy!!!

All the work this year has been the work for the SUB 4 or DIE marathon.

If you want to run a super well organized and fast marathon consider doing Rocket City. Its a great time in a great city. It fills up quick!

Tomorrow is the Cotton Row 10k and Seawheeze training week 2. My Hamstring is really bothering me today so I am taking today as my off day. Ice and rest for me!

TGIF

Woot! managed to get in a morning run today. Sad thing……….its warm weather now and I can’t wear my compression socks under my dress pants.

Even running at 5:00 am it was 70 degrees and 87% humidity. But, alas………..the running is done for the day and now i can focus on a huge pile of work and a 3 day weekend!

Bring it on Cotton Row 10k!

Oh heat and Humidity how I loathe you …….

Being a half southern/half mid-western girl I have grown up dealing with heat and humidity in the Summer. I swear its reason enough to move to the PNW (Pacific North West). But it’s only May so its not supposed to be so bad but Sunday they are forecasting 96 degrees! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!

I had 5 miles on my training plan for last night and i decided to hit the 6-8.5 mile mark on our local marathon course. Its hilly but ever route i run is that way.

Stupidly i didn’t take water with me. I am so hard headed about that crap. I hate carrying anything with me I just want to run but 1 mile in i regretted that decision.

I had so much trouble pacing it was almost funny. Either i was running way to fast or really slow. I just couldn’t get it regulated. But I managed to dig and get 5 in so that in it self was an accomplishment to me. I almost got run over by a 10 year old on her bike. Traffic out of a tunnel goes two ways. I think she was more surprise to see me running that i was to see her. LOL

The weather is forcing the morning workout but did I get up this morning! NO! I want to smack myself sometimes. I will bargain almost anything for an extra hour of sleep. So dumb!!! I am trying to get better.

This Lululemon Seawheeze half marathon better be awesome because this is the one and only time i do distance training in the summer!

I have 4 on the plan tonight. its only a cool 90 degrees out.

Biltmore 15K——

So this weekend was the Biltmore 15k in Asheville, NC.

I was very excited to run this race because well 15k is a super fun distance and the Biltmore grounds are AMAZING. It was so awesome to be on the ground in the early morning just enjoying the amazing scenery

Race morning- I tried a new food for racing and I approve. I started eating Almond butter on a pita instead of my Honey Stinger bars. The almond butter doesn’t upset my stomach its the first race i never felt hungry in. So thank you to my friend Laura for suggesting it.

We got to the Biltmore and found the start line. The Ironman and I warmed up and away to the start we went. I was really excited because my mom was at the race.

Standing at the start line i just couldn’t figure out what type of race i wanted to run. I hadn’t been in training mode for over 3 weeks because of being sick and well I have been kinda lazy for the past few weeks. But that’s okay. So,i just decided to run and see what happened and RUN i did.

Mile 1- 9:00 pace—feels good i got this—uphill begins

Mile 2- when will this hill end….its been almost a mile

Mile 3- 5k mark—slower than usually but we’ve climber forever it seems

Mile 4- Oh shit—-the 1.3 mile climb has started…..i will not stop…..and i didn’t

Mile 5- The TOP OF THE HILL—-baby Jesus thank you! For what goes up must come down where is the down hill…..oh wow….we should see the house soon

Mile 6- Crap—i forgot to take my GU….better late than never..oh wow..the biltmore house god its huge…i could still maybe get a 1:26…..downhill baby!! i love life again

Mile 7—two more to the finish—-wow this is boring….i need some wildlife to look at

Mile 8- one more—-so close to the 1:26 but probably going to go 1:27

Mile 9- anyone can run one more mile…….wooooo thank god its cool weather today

.3—- yay!!!!!! i did this and I am not even in shape. Maybe i will hit some fast times in Vancouver and Rocket City.

Finish Line—- I decide to make the finish fun and do the airplane….The Ironman was like “wow you are here already” Why yes I am…not as slow as i thought.

We hung around and got his 1st place age group medal then proceeded to walk the ground and tour the house by 3:00 pm I was definitely ready for a nap!

This race was super fun……I had no expectation and it proved that i am in way better shape than last year and further along than I thought I was. I’m curious to what I could have run if I hadn’t gotten sick. The race also gave me my confidence back. I needed that now that i have quite a high mileage half training plan for Seawheeze.

Up next—— Cotton Row 10k….AKA the most miserable 10k of the year.

Good luck running this week! Survive the heat
